Major Snowstorm Condition and Significant Weather Event Declarations End
The Major Snowstorm Condition and Significant Weather Event declarations, which came into effect on Wednesday, February 12, ended at 4 p.m. today.
The City of Toronto made these declarations ahead of receiving 53 centimetres of snow from numerous snowstorms over 10 days. These declarations improved the efficiency of winter road maintenance as they prohibited parking on designated snow routes, allowing crews to plow and remove snow from the roads and sidewalks faster.
Now that the declarations have ended, on-street parking is now permitted on designated snow routes. Covers are being removed from affected on-street parking meters and drivers can use the Green P mobile app to pay for parking.
Snow removal – which involves collecting snow into dump trucks and transporting it to a designated snow storage sites – will continue where necessary. To assist crews, drivers are reminded to avoid parking where temporary orange “No Parking – Snow Removal” signs are posted as crews will be removing the snow from the area within 48 hours of the signs being posted. Vehicles parked on streets with these temporary signs could be fined or towed at the owner’s expense.
To help prevent flooding from snow melt and expected rainfall, crews are working around the clock to inspect and clear catch basins, particularly those in low-lying areas.
The City continues to accept 311 service requests for snow clean-up. Residents can report areas that need attention, such as large windrows, by calling 311 or on the City’s website at https://www.toronto.ca/home/311-toronto-at-your-service/submit-a-service-request-or-feedback/ or the 311 Toronto mobile app.
The City would like to thank residents for their patience and cooperation in keeping their cars off of the snow routes during this time and identifying areas across the city that need special attention by submitting requests through 311.
Toronto has a comprehensive snow response plan that prioritizes the safety and movement of residents. More information is available on the City’s website www.toronto.ca/snow including a list and map of snow routes (red roads only): https://www.toronto.ca/services-payments/streets-parking-transportation/road-maintenance/winter-maintenance/major-snow-event/.
