City of Toronto announces early registration for Older Adult winter programs opens tomorrow
Today, Mayor Olivia Chow and Councillor Paul Ainslie (Scarborough-Guildwood) announced that for the first time ever, registration for Older Adult programs will begin tomorrow. This is one week ahead of registration for all other winter programs which is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, December 3 and Wednesday, December 4.
Older Adult programs include computers, crafts, dance and fitness classes for people aged 60 plus. Residents can register online, by phone or at any Community Centre across the city.
New registration system for recreation and cultural programs
Older adults can use the City of Toronto’s new registration and booking system to enrol in recreation and cultural programs and book spaces. The new system launched earlier this month and provides a more user-friendly experience for residents. The new system is mobile-responsive and has improved accessibility features as well as improved self-serve options.
Anyone wishing to participate in winter recreation programs must have a new account before they register. The City is encouraging residents to explore the new system, which is now available, and create a new account before registration for all programs begins next week.
Support is available to help residents get up and running on the new system, including free in-person public help sessions at local community recreation centres and seniors’ centres, as well as virtual help sessions and online video tutorials. This information can be found on the City’s webpage: https://www.toronto.ca/explore-enjoy/parks-recreation/how-to-use-our-services/online-registration-booking/.
Key dates
• Tuesday, November 26 at 10 a.m. – first-ever early registration for Older Adult programs begins
• Tuesday, December 3 at 7 a.m.– registration opens for all winter recreation programs in Etobicoke York and Toronto and East York
• Wednesday, December 4 at 7 a.m.– registration opens for all winter recreation programs in North York and Scarborough
Quotes:
“I am proud to announce that for the first time ever, registration for Older Adult programs will begin tomorrow. Early access to Older Adult programs is important as many depend on our services to stay active and to maintain social connections. I’m also excited about the launch of our new, user-friendly registration system for recreational programs, making it easier for everyone in our community to sign up and get involved. I encourage everyone to explore the new system now and create a new account before citywide program registration begins next week.”
- Mayor Olivia Chow
“Our community recreation centres like One Yonge are important gathering places in our neighbourhoods, for all ages. I’m proud we are making it easier and offering local support to ensure older adults get signed up to enjoy their favourite programs.”
- Deputy Mayor Ausma Malik (Spadina-Fort York)
“With early registration for our older adult programs, we’re improving the registration process, making it more equitable and eliminating challenges – with a separate registration time, we ensure fair opportunity to access programs and services.”
- Councillor Paul Ainslie (Scarborough-Guildwood)
