City of Toronto announces details of the 2025 Budget Consultations

Today, Mayor Olivia Chow and Councillor Shelley Carroll (Don Valley North), Chair of the Budget Committee, announced details of the City of Toronto’s 2025 Budget Consultations. For the second consecutive year, the City is launching consultations to gather input from residents to help inform budget planning. Until Thursday, October 31, residents are encouraged to share what matters most to them for the City’s 2025 Budget through an online survey or by attending one of six consultation sessions.

Online survey
Toronto residents can complete an online survey on the City’s Budget webpage (www.toronto.ca/budget) until Thursday, October 31. The survey is available in 12 languages: English, French, Chinese-simplified, Chinese-traditional, Farsi, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, Tamil and Urdu. 

In-person consultations
- Saturday, October 19, from noon to 2 p.m., North York Memorial Hall, 5110 Yonge St.
- Thursday, October 24, from 7 to 9 p.m., Scarborough Civic Centre, 150 Borough Dr.
- Sunday, October 27, from noon to 2 p.m., Rose Avenue Junior Public School, 675 Ontario St.
- Monday, October 28, from 7 to 9 p.m., Etobicoke Olympium, 590 Rathburn Rd.

Virtual consultations
- Wednesday, October 23, from 7 to 9 p.m., virtual meeting, www.toronto.ca/budget.
- Wednesday, October 30, from 7 to 9 p.m., virtual meeting, www.toronto.ca/budget.

American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation will be available at all in-person meetings and live closed captioning will be available at all virtual meetings. For accessibility support, attendees are asked to contact engagement@toronto.ca or 416-392-5398.

The City is engaging with Albion Neighbourhood Services and other community partners, as well as the Toronto Youth Cabinet and the Toronto Aboriginal Support Services Council, who will facilitate community-led consultations with Black, Indigenous and equity-deserving communities and youth city-wide.  

The results of the consultations will be presented to the Budget Committee at its first meeting on Monday, January 13, 2025, and will accompany the Budget Committee’s recommendations to the Mayor to inform her proposed budget which will be released by Saturday, February 1, 2025. 

Last year, the City embarked on a multi-year journey to build a strong financial future, approving the Updated Long Term Financial Plan and the historic Ontario-Toronto New Deal agreement. The 2024 budget made much needed investments to improve public transit, fix roads, extend library hours and open pools and park washrooms earlier than ever while also tackling a significant $1.8 billion opening pressure. Despite this progress, the City still faces financial challenges and must make important budget decisions which will be informed by the result of these consultations.
