City of Toronto and CUPE Local 79 reach tentative agreement; media availability at 1:45 a.m.
The City of Toronto and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 79 have reached a tentative four-year agreement. Local 79 represents the City’s 27,000 inside workers.
The agreement reflects the important work of City employees like personal support workers and nurses who care for vulnerable seniors, child care workers who work with the city’s youngest residents and recreation workers who provide invaluable programming to thousands of residents.
Details of the tentative agreement will remain confidential until the union membership and Toronto City Council have had the opportunity to review and ratify the terms.
Media availability
Mayor Olivia Chow and City Manager Paul Johnson will provide an update on collective bargaining with Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 79.
Date: Saturday, March 8
Time: 1:45 a.m.
Location: Members’ Lounge, Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen St. W.
Notes: Media is asked to buzz in at the intercom at the front of City Hall on Nathan Phillips Square. Media without security card access to City Hall will be required to pass through security screening. All media will be escorted via the East Council elevator.
