Na-Me-Res Pow Wow & Indigenous Arts Festival returns to Fort York this weekend

The Na-Me-Res Pow Wow and Indigenous Arts Festival (IAF) is returning to Fort York National Historic Site this weekend. Founded in 2013 in partnership with the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation (MCFN), IAF is a free, weekend-long event that celebrates the diverse and vibrant cultures of the many First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples living across Turtle Island.

Flag-raising ceremony
Mayor Olivia Chow and Deputy Mayor Ausma Malik (Spadina-Fort York) will join Elders and community members of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation for a ceremonial raising of the MCFN flag.

Date: Saturday, June 15
Time: 9 a.m.
Location: Fort York National Historic Site, 250 Fort York Blvd.
Notes: Interview opportunities will be available following the flag raising ceremony on Saturday. Media are encouraged to contact media@toronto.ca to RSVP.
Media entrance: The flag raising ceremony will take place inside the gates at 100 Garrison Rd. Media are invited to park in front of the Fort York Visitor Centre (250 Fort York Blvd) and walk to the flagpole.

Festival highlights
• Saturday, June 15: Na-Me-Res Traditional Pow Wow with drumming, dancing, food, artisan vendors and evening musical performances curated by Tkaronto Music Festival
• Sunday, June 16: Full day of live music and dance performances showcasing some of Canada’s renowned and emerging Indigenous talent
• Explore the vibrant artisan and food market stalls with authentic handmade creations and artwork alongside delicious Indigenous dishes throughout the weekend
