News Release
September 9, 2024
Registration opens tomorrow for City of Toronto fall recreation programming
Registration for fall recreation programs starts at 7 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, September 10, through Wednesday, September 11, for programs that begin on Saturday, September 28.
The quickest and easiest way to find information is to register online on the City’s Fall Recreation webpage: https://www.toronto.ca/explore-enjoy/parks-recreation/program-activities/fall-recreation-programs/
Registration for fall recreation programs starts at 7 a.m. for the following areas, with in-person registration support at five community centre locations from 7 a.m. to noon:
Tuesday, September 10: Etobicoke York including York-South West, Toronto and East York
o Driftwood Community Recreation Centre, 4401 Jane St.
o Masaryk-Cowan Community Recreation Centre, 220 Cowan Ave.
o Wellesley Community Centre, 495 Sherbourne St.
Wednesday, September 11: North York and Scarborough
o Centennial Recreation Centre, 1967 Ellesmere Rd.
o Dennis R. Timbrell Resource Centre, 29 St. Dennis Dr.
Approximately 16,000 registered programs with more than 160,000 spaces are available to allow Torontonians of all ages and abilities to try an activity, develop talent and stay moving this fall.
The City is the largest provider of recreation programs for people of all ages, skill levels and interests and offers arts, fitness, sports, skating and swimming. New programs starting this fall include Kalimba, Micro-gardening, Electronic Club and Dungeons and Dragons for Older Adults.
Residents who require help preparing for registration can call 416-396-7378, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The City will also offer extended hours on Monday, September 9, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The call centre will also be open for extended hours on registration days from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Residents need a family and client number to sign up for recreation programs and are encouraged to have them ready before registration. To get a client and family number, residents can set up a new account or retrieve their existing numbers at the Fall Recreation Programs webpage or by phone at 416-396-7378.
The City’s recreation programs are popular, and many have wait lists. If registrants are unable to attend their program, they are asked to contact their local community centre or call the customer service line at 416-396-7378 to cancel their registration so that a spot can be offered to someone else.
Discounts and free recreation programs
Many community centres offer free recreation programs including leisure swimming and drop-in programs for children, youth, and older adults. Participants 60 years and older receive a 50 per cent discount on the regular price of adult recreation programs excluding private, semi-private and small group lessons.
More information about free programs and other subsidies for recreation programs is available on the City’s Free & Lower-Cost Recreation Options webpage: https://www.toronto.ca/explore-enjoy/parks-recreation/how-to-use-our-services/how-to-register-for-recreation-programs/free-lower-cost-recreation-options/
Welcome Policy yearly credit
The Welcome Policy credit can be used to register for City recreation programs including fall recreation. Those receiving social assistance (Ontario Works) and living in Toronto are pre-approved to receive this credit and should speak to their caseworker or apply online. Toronto residents with family income that meets the criteria may also apply.
More information on the criteria and how to apply can be found on the City’s webpage: https://www.toronto.ca/community-people/employment-social-support/child-family-support/welcome-policy-recreation-fee-subsidy/
Recreation jobs
The City continues to prepare for Winter 2025 programming and is currently hiring for positions in skate, ski, fitness, aquatic and general programs.
More information about positions and upcoming information sessions is available on the City’s Recreation Jobs webpage: https://jobs.toronto.ca/recreation/
