Chief Election Officer declares candidates elected
On April 9, the City of Vancouvers Chief Election Officer in the April 5 by-election for two City councillors. The newly elected City councillors will serve for approximately a one-and-a-half-year term before the next municipal election in 2026.
Watering restrictions begin May 1
Starting May 1, 2025 seasonal regulations go into effect to one day per week for Vancouver homes and businesses. These watering restrictions remain in place until October 15, 2025 and help conserve drinking water during our hotter, drier months. Watering outside these times could result in a $250 fine.
New Expo Deck path to open late May
Vancouver Seawall and Seaside Greenway when walking or cycling by Science World. Construction on a new compacted gravel path between Creekside Community Centre and Science World is now underway. The new wider, separated path is anticipated to open in late May, improving access around False Creek this summer.
Lime expands shared e-scooter system into downtown Vancouver
Getting around the city will be even more sustainable as , announced the just in time for spring.
Residents and visitors will begin to see the installation of Lime parking stations throughout the downtown peninsula. Each parking station will designate a clear end-of-trip location while keeping streets safe and uncluttered. Locations were carefully selected, in collaboration with the City and with feedback from local businesses and residents, to focus on safety, ease of use and access to key downtown routes and destinations.
City to trial one-way vehicle circulation on Canada Place for peak cruise ship season
To improve pedestrian safety and better manage the growing volume of vehicle traffic on one of the citys busiest thoroughfares, the City is from mid-April to December 2025. The pilot begins ahead of the peak spring/summer cruise ship season, which annually sees upwards of 1.2 million passenger visits to Vancouver boarding more than 300 cruise ships.
ʔəy̓alməxʷ/Iy̓álmexw/Jericho Lands takes next steps with Official Development Plan
Following a public hearing, Vancouver City Council . Together, the ODP and Policy Statement approved by City Council in January 2024, will ensure development at ʔəy̓alməxʷ/Iy̓álmexw/Jericho Lands creates a complete, sustainable community with a range of housing options, shops, services, public amenities and cultural facilities with access to new rapid transit.
City seeking input on actions to increase housing options and accelerate SRO replacement in the Downtown Eastside
The City of Vancouver is in the Downtown Eastside (DTES), including for those living in Single Room Occupancy buildings (SROs). We are currently seeking input from residents and other interest holders to help inform recommendations to City Council later this year.
From now until May 16th, we invite residents, businesses, and organizations to share their thoughts on the proposed changes through the online survey and by attending one of the public events.

Room for hotels: updated policy to open doors for new hotel developments
City Council aimed at encouraging the development of a diverse hotel supply and supporting Vancouver as a top tier destination for leisure and business travelers. This follows direction from a 2023 City Council motion and is part of updates made to the Broadway Plan Review in 2024.

Vaisakhi Festival and Parade in Vancouver
On Saturday, April 12, thousands of residents and visitors to celebrate Vaisakhi, an important religious occasion for the Sikh community. Vaisakhi celebrates the creation of the Khalsa, a spiritual order founded by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699, a defining moment in Sikh history. Vaisakhi also marks the beginning of the spring harvest in Punjab. The Vancouver Vaisakhi Festival and Parade has been held annually since 1979, with a pause during the pandemic.
Raising the bar: Good Night Out launches Last Call Audit to champion safer and more inclusive hospitality venues across Vancouver
Hospitality venues across Vancouver can now . The Last Call Audit evaluates key safety measures, such as maintaining up-to-date workplace harassment policies and having clear procedures for addressing worker and patron complaints about discrimination or misconduct. Participating venues receive resources, tools and support from Good Night Out Vancouver, to enhance both worker and patron safety, and pass the audit. Those that exceed expectations are celebrated for setting a new standard in fostering safety and inclusivity across Vancouvers nightlife.
